課程概述

A composite course covering experimental techniques commonly used in fields of atomic and molecular sciences, physical chemistry and material sciences. The five different topics will be taught by five different specialists in each field.

1. Laboratory Electronics (8 hours)
2. Optics, Lasers and Detection (8 hours)
3. Introduction to Quantitative Spectroscopy (4 hours)
4. Electron Microscopy (4 hours)
5. Optical Vibrational Spectroscopy (4 hours)

課程目標
1.Laboratory Electronics
Instructor: Jyhpyng Wang

Introduction:

In a modern laboratory, data are transmitted by electronic signals. Apparatuses are also controlled by electronic signals. Therefore, it is extremely important for students to know what is going on behind the switches, knobs, touchpads, cables, detectors, etc. In this course we will teach students the basics of real-world electronics and the working principles behind them. In part 1, we introduce elementary electronic circuits and practical diagnosis tools such as oscilloscopes, RLC meters, spectral analyzers, etc. Starting from the most basic diodes and transistors, we show the construction of filters, amplifiers, and oscillators. Then we address the important issue of signal propagation in coaxial cables as well as techniques to mitigate interferences. In part 2, we introduce basic elements of digital circuits, such as encoder/decoders, flip-flops, counters, AD/DA converters, and then discuss digital/analog interface. These building blocks are so widely used in laboratory electronics that by knowing them well, students can develop the confidence on working with laboratory electronics intelligently.
